MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)

MTTR is the average time taken to repair a failed asset and return it to service, including diagnosis, repair and testing. A lower MTTR means faster recovery and less downtime. It complements MTBF in measuring maintenance performance.

MTTR captures how quickly a team restores a failed asset — it reflects spares availability, access, skills and procedures. Reducing MTTR (better access, ready spares, clear work instructions) cuts the cost of each failure. Note that removable insulation reduces MTTR on insulated equipment by making maintenance access fast.
